Intercessory Prayer Circle (IPC)

How it started

In 1921 in England, Mrs Lucy Mosse, with failed health and confined to bed, found that after an active life she could contribute to Mothers’ Union by prayer. A prayer circle soon grew up and spread.

Now known as the Intercessory Prayer Circle (IPC) has spread throughout the world and is a power house for the work of the Mothers’ Union.

The importance of IPC

  • Remembering the IPC members in prayer.
  • Supporting the work of Mother’ Union through prayer.
  • Keeping connected with MU members who no longer can be active members, especially those who are in Aged Care facilities or housebound due to illness or infirmity.

Who can join IPC?

MU members can join by becoming a ‘Member’ or as a ’Friend’

Member of IPC

If you are isolated, ill, advanced in age (or even if you’re not!) you are welcome to join IPC.

IPC gives those members who can no longer be active members to still play an important part in Mothers’ Union by praying for MU.

The Mothers’ Union greatly values the prayers of our wonderful IPC Members. Our work certainly prospers through your prayers.

Friend of IPC

More active members of Mothers’ Union can become Friends of IPC.

You will receive the IPC Prayer Leaflets that IPC Members receive (useful for your own prayers).

What does it involve?

As a Member or Friend of IPC, you will receive an IPC leaflet twice a year (Mid-year and Advent) either by mail or email, which has the names of all those who are members or friends and different prayers.

The leaflet you get helps you keep up to date with what is happening in Mothers’ Union: and your prayers will bless that work. You can use the leaflet as part of your prayers, every day or as often as you can.

There are also MU members who are Friends of IPC, who will be praying for you as an IPC member.

How do I become an IPC Member or a Friend?

  • Contact your local MU branch
  • Send an email to office@mumelbourne.org.au
  • Send a letter to Mothers Union Diocese of Melbourne
